Disney, OK - Saturday, September 13, 2003 To get the Fall season kicked off we'll run up to Disney at Grand Lake. No fixed agenda - those familiar with Disney will have the time to explore those side trails that have beckoned on past trail rides. Members new to this off-roading area can experience terrain with everything from mild to wild. As has been asked by new members many times, if you wish to drive your daily driver Rover to Disney, and jump in as a passenger with someone, you are very welcome. Or if you wish to take your stock Rover offroad, we will certainly be driving enough mild trails to do so. Just remember those recovery points. If you're after a good photo for our Muddiest Rover contest, there should be ample opportunity. We're also intending to do a little playing on the rocks around the second and third sluice gate. Remember that it is prohibited to actually drive right up to the gates! MEETING POINT 8:00am: For those leaving from Tulsa - Quik Trip at 161st & I-44 - Traveling in convoy east on I-44 - take exit Hwy 28 East (left) through Adair, Pensacola, and Langley. Turn right at Langley (T-Junction), and after 1/4 mile turn left, still on Hwy 28 East across the Dam. See Map on sidebar! MEETING POINT DISNEY 9:15am: Immediately after the Dam turn down to the right, onto trail road, stop! You made it! (Some of the KC group may be camping at Hogan's RV and camp ground). LUNCH: We're planning a morning trail ride / playtime with a break for a BYO (Bring Your Own) lunch down on the area in front of the waterfall. EQUIPMENT: If you have recovery equipment, bring it! (one never knows, when one might need it) - If not there will be others with tow ropes, winches, and Hi-Lift Jacks. HOWEVER, PROPER RECOVERY POINTS (FRONT AND REAR) ARE ESSENTIAL. Extra gas should not be necessary. There are gas stations in Langley and Disney, so it is advised to fill up before going off-pavement. If your gas tank has a low capacity however, bring extra, stored in a proper jerry can mounted outside your vehicle. TRAIL ETIQUETTE: There is proper behavior for every occasion. Correct trail etiquette applies as always, and consumption of anything intoxicating is strictly prohibited. Think of others! Click here for our interpretation of proper trail etiquette... |
TRAILS: Disney, has very varied terrain, with lots of moderate trails, suitable for stock Land Rovers. Also, there is rocky terrain for those more inclined to rockcrawling, and many deep-rutted trails with mudholes, which can be challenging for a stock truck. To get an indication of the type of trails, go back to the "4x4 Play" section, and scroll down to click on some of our recent events there. |
